Student Literary Works: If I Die Young

By Jesscia Groves

If I die young, tell my story ,

How I lived and gave Him all my glory

How I surpassed the moments of a feeble hand

And held firm to the righteous stand.

If I die young, tell my mother

That I have always loved her.

I will shine down with a smile,

A petty return for when she raised me as a child .

No longer carefree and laughing, like she did before,

Spinning me and dancing across the kitchen floor.

Please tell my father

That his strength made me stronger.

His firmness in my life is a rock to hold on to

Even though my little feet could not fit in his big shoes.

To my brother and sister ,

Give him a hug and kiss her.

Give him my sword  I would let him wear

And give her my childhood teddy bear.

And to my best friends, loyal through my years,

Our own little trio, The Three Musketeers.

With me though every high, every low.

I know they wish they could come with me, wherever I go.

To my lover, the one who made me laugh ,

I wish you could have been my better half.

I can and will always feel your hand.

And know you were the one, my best man.

I died young, my life robbed from me ,

But remember what I stood for, how I lived to be free.

How even tribulations could not hold me down,

I am still moving, not really in the ground.

Remember me, and put these words upon my grave,

β€œShe died young, but her journey was brave.”
