Gazette Staff Advisor Sings at Gamecock Baseball Opening Weekend

By Annie Smith, Director of Marketing, Development, & Alumni Relations

University of South Carolina baseball and softball fans are being treated to a soaring rendition of the National Anthem, thanks to the remarkable talent of Macy Petty. Her first performance was on February 16, opening the game before Gamecock Baseball took on Sacred Heart University to conclude their opening weekend. A Union (S.C.) native, Petty graduated Furman University in 2023 with dual degrees in Vocal Performance and English. She also participated in the Berlin Opera Academy, a prestigious summer program in Germany. While attending Furman, Petty showcased her talents through opera performances, musicals, and concerts with the Sarah Reese Lyric Theatre and the Furman Singers.

Currently, Petty is furthering her education at USC, where she is pursuing a Master of Mass Communications degree. As the Public Relations and Development Assistant at USC Union, she manages the campus blog, social media pages, while also overseeing USC Union’s student newspaper, The Bantam Gazette. Her journalistic talents extend to the county, as she is also a contributing writer for the Union County News.
